Over Memorial Day weekend, 2006, the UTC had its first official
function as Grandmaster Byrne led a contingent of four ATA members to
Germany. They spent 4 days sight-seeing (and eating!) in Germany, and
on Saturday, May 27th, they led an international Tang Soo Do seminar.
It was held at the David Sport Forum in Wiesbaden, and hosted by
Grandmaster Benedetto Stumpf.
In one of the first orders of business during the seminar, Grandmaster Byrne presented Grandmaster Stumpf with a plaque signifying his new position as executive director of the United Tang Soo Do Congress. Many ATA members have had the privilege of working with Grandmaster Stumpf before, as he attended, and taught a seminar at, Grandmaster Byrne's summer camp in 2005.
Then, in the first official promotion out of the UTC, Grandmaster Byrne promoted Theo Ketelaar, head of the UTC school in Holland, to 4th Dan.
The seminar was a success, with Grandmaster Byrne, Grandmaster Stumpf, and Master Penny Mitchell all teaching. There were many Tang Soo Do students in attendance, including a large contingent, nearly 30, from Holland. With the US ATA members there, it was truly an international event.
