2006 All Tang Soo Do Tournament

On March 17 and 18th, competitors gathered in Lynnfield, MA, from as far away as Calgary, Alberta, for Grandmaster Richard Byrne's 33rd annual All Tang Soo Do Championship. As always, it was a wonderful event, with spirited competition from competitors aged 4-40+. Friday night featured weapons forms and Chil Son form competitions. Saturday was devoted to traditional forms, breaking, and sparring. A good time was had by all.
One of the highlights of Saturday morning's opening ceremony was the awarding of 7th Dan to Master Penny Mitchell. Master Mitchell, the vice-president of the ATA and one of the highest ranking women in Tang Soo Do in the world, was promoted by Grandmaster Byrne. Her promotion obviously came as a surprise to her, but not to some of her higher ranking students, who were ready with flowers to present along with the belt.

With her promotion, Master Mitchell becomes the 2nd member of the ATA to achieve the rank of 7th Dan, following only Grandmaster Byrne. And she becomes the first of Grandmaster Byrne's students to achieve that rank.
